I had to take a wee bit of time off after the holidays. Things might have gotten a little crazy!
We spent 10 straight days working on the house, I thought I might collapse. Sadly, not enough got done, but isn’t that always the case?

Anyway, a few new designs popped themselves into my head over the past week. They all went into the Etsy shop, even the ones I wanted to keep for myself. Again… isn’t that always the case?? lol.
I signed up for a project called 52 Crafts with the goal of using that as a reason to make things I don’t give away or put up for sale. Let’s hope it works! One of my New Year’s resolutions is to keep a few of my things for myself, and to buy more stuff from other crafters I admire.

anyway… new stuff!

This is the Punk Roctopus. He makes me squee, even if punks don’t squee. There’s a tiny safety pin poked thru the metal on the open edge. Punk Roctopus!! (I know, but I couldn’t help it)

I also started a Time Traveller’s series of necklaces and earrings.
So far I’ve done London, Morrocco and Paris. More coming I think. I’m sort of becoming obsessed with travel and places-gone-by.

I made the Etsy Gift Guides again, and this time I actually got a screencap!!

This print makes me melt!

So this past weekend I was at an event where a donation of a toy was requested for a well-known organization who collects such things for needy kids. I took the “Buy Handmade” pledge this year, and well, that means buy handmade, even for people I don’t know! Anyway, I took one of my recycled sweater snakes and got an odd reaction from the woman collecting. It was sort of an eye opener as to how far we have left to go, as it was clear that Bratz Dollz were a far more acceptable item.

Anyway, I discovered that Etsy has once again taken the lead on that, and there is a donation drive specifically requesting handmade toys.
a drive benefitting housingworks, which is the nations largest grassroots AIDS service organization in the United States. They are also the nation’s largest minority-controlled AIDS service organization. They help provide shelter, advocacy, financial and legal assistance to those in need.

Follow the link and you can send toys for kids up to age 16. Yay! I’m so sending a handmade softie to these guys. Maybe even two!

Craftivism for HouseWorks!

Goodness this has been an Etsy sort of weekend! One of my scarves got featured in the “environmentally friendly” gift guide, and my Oh Deer! sweater was on the front page. Thanks to all that, I came home from a Holiday party to find half my shop sold out! Ack!!!! (Yay!)

on the front page!

Just made a giant update to the shop. I’ll add some more stuff tomorrow, but now it’s time to start painting crown molding. Heh, guess what we’re doing instead of eating turkey!

Hope everyone has a fantastic Turkey Day! Drive safely wherever you’re headed.

So lately it’s been a little crazy around here. By a little, I mean, omg help! I need elves!

Here’s just a little of the “why”.

atlanta craft mafia logo

See that? Well, umm. I guess I can let the cat out of the bag now. The ladies who started the old Atlanta Craft Mafia decided they didn’t want to do it anymore. It’s a franchise sort of deal just like Dr Sketchy’s is, and when some friends looked into picking up the franchise and asked me to join, well how could I say no?? Becky, Liz and I are three crafters of the new 7 crafter Founding Family.

We sort of want to do things a little differently, we want to have members and offer more things like classes and more than one show. We also want to operate as an umbrella organization promoting and protecting our members, and we want to have a level of participation for non-crafting people who have an interest in promoting/appreciating the handmade lifestyle.
We’re still working out all the details, but so far we have a preliminary website, http://www.atlcraftmafia.com/
and we plan to have a meet-and-greet sometime in January or early February to reach out to all our fellow crafters who might want to join us on our mission to take over the world with handmade awesomeness.

Let’s see, what else? Oh yeah, the CHOMP N STOMP was amazing. I had a record day. The chili was unfrickingbelievable, and I actually got some this year! Alligator chili with jalapeno hush puppies??? omg. Green Veggie Chili??? omg… but the most amazing was the thai vegetarian chili with some sort of fake sourcream topping. I wish I knew who made it, it was unbelievable.

Next up for Supercute! will be a little indoor festival this saturday to help out one of our neighborhood schools. Indoors! Helps kids! How could we say no??
Once again, we’ll be neighboring with ScurvyDog Photography, so even if you don’t have kids, but just want to support a fabulous neighborhood school and get some early Xmas shopping done, MaryLin will be a good place to do it! Saturday, 11-5, in Candler Park.

I also decided to start keeping some knits in the Etsy shop. I’ll be posting things as I get them made over the next few days, even tho it means closing down the shop for each festival. Seems like I should keep a better representation of what I do in there tho, you know?
