kittens!

I was trying to find the first picture of Monkey in my Flickr, so I could figure out how old he is. I found this. Man. How did I ever get anything done? Oh right, I didn’t.

Poor Monkey won’t eat today and he’s throwing up a little. I hope he gets better in a few hours, or he might just be going to the kitty doctor in the morning.

Lucie has been training.

Saturday night we had a glorious storm - thunder, lightning, the works! All that has ushered in two days of unseasonably cool weather and a breeze so clean and crisp it feels like the first day of school. With the bedroom window wide open to the breeze and some fresh sheets, the bed was full of cats today, snoozing away happily. It was so hard not to join them.
I’m not sure why, but I’ve been so exhausted lately. Normally, spring makes me energetic, but the past few months have been just exhausting and all I want to do is sleep for a week!

The Kirkwood Spring Fling is next weekend, which is awesome. Last year, we had a cage of kittens in our tent! Lucie was just a wee ball of fur.

After Kirkwood, we get two weekends off before SuperCute! hosts the Indie Craft Experience pre-party on friday the 6th, and then of course the Indie Craft Experience itself is on the 7th. We’ll be screening the Craft Documentary at the pre-party! squee!

Speaking of ICE… the ICE girls are looking for volunteers to help during the festival with a few jobs like directing traffic (parking) and helping out in the on-site craft tent! Are you available? All volunteers are welcome to the party and get an awesome swag bag!

Man. I seriously think it’s bedtime. The rest of my errands will have to wait until tomorrow, I can barely keep my eyes open! zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yes, this post will be random, you’ve been warned.

First! This weekend, SuperCute! will be truckin’ it up to Athens for the Craftstravaganzaa!!!

Then, we’ll be rushing back home for Youngblood’s Grand Opening Party!!

youngblood is back!

In sustainable sewing news, I ran across these the other day. So far, they appear to only be in Europe, but I’m still hunting.

Second: Biodegradeable Zippers! (break down in your compost bin, wow)
compostable zippers?

So.Cool.

And while I’m linking, here’s a great article that pretty much sums up why I’m mostly vegetarian, and how I feel about people who make fun of me for it: http://www.slate.com/id/2190872
excerpt:
Please don’t try to convince us that being vegetarian is somehow wrong. … If you want to have an amiable tête-à-tête about vegetarianism, that’s great. But if you insist on being the aggressive blowhard who takes meatlessness as a personal insult and rails about what fools we all are, you’re only going to persuade me that you’re a dickhead.”

oh look, here’s a cute kitten picture!

today, Lucie is one.
all the cats will celebrate with catnip and tuna cupcakes.

For those of you knew and loved the cranky old bastard, he’s gone on to that great big playground in the sky where he gets to be alpha kitty all the time and has cheeseburgers for dinner every night.

spliff can be cute

Yes, he was cranky, but if he loved you, he was fiercely loyal, and he certainly loved Wayne. We had no idea he was even sick, but at least he got a fresh tilapia fillet for breakfast. It happened in about 10 minutes, the vet said he didn’t suffer. Luckily I found him before he passed on, so at least he was being held and loved.

goodbye Spliff, the house isn’t going to be the same without you.

It snowed in Atlanta:

The kittens are unsure about this white, wet stuff falling from the sky. Lucie does not like how cold her butt gets when she tries to pee.

We also get kittens who have much energy to burn, but don’t want to do it outside.

and Monkey gets more than a little wild. Poor Wayne hadn’t even had coffee yet before getting attacked this morning.

article and tips for this week and beyond!

I don’t think I’m quite prepared for a total no-trash week, but I’m gonna try and keep myself to one kitchen bag for the week. A lot of the tips are things I do every day, but there were a lot of tips I could definitely start implementing.

____________

Every morning I let the kittens out for a litttle while so they can burn off some excess energy. This past week has been a week of hilarious morning-coffees, as the kittens learn about falling leaves (and falling acorns).
Monkey is now bigger than Lucie, and oh goodness do they spar. They’re like a cartoon tornado rolling through the house and ricocheting off the walls and furniture. No, I’m not joking, they really do ricochet.

A couple weeks ago, I saw this chair on the side of the road. I had to circle back and go get it, because I thought it had nice bones.

It was covered in about a million badly-done coats of white paint, so I attacked it with some stripper. This stripper is so amazing: no fumes, no harsh chemicals, no headache… and an hour later, the paint practically fell off. I still need to go over it with some steel wool in the crevices, but so far it’s been a painless re-hab.

________

Speaking of chairs, a friend who is having a baby was clearing some things out of her house to make room for the new nursery. She had a pair of these chairs she no longer needed, and once again, I’ve scored something fabulous in return for teaching someone to sew. woo!!!!! I love barter!

Anyway, I should have taken a “before” shot, because they did look rather grandma-ish the way they were, but a couple hours with a staple remover and the frumpy skirts were gone, leaving another pair of chairs with very nice bones.

I do intend to eventually reupholster them. The original color was lovely, like the inside of a kiwi, but they’ve faded to an odd chartreuse. However, Lucie approves, for now.
