treasure hunting

So Lizerati and I were discussing our fascination with hedgehogs the other day, and I was lamenting not finding the right kind of sweater to make myself a stuffed one.

Well what did I see today on Etsy, but this little guy right here. Oh dear. He’s on my wishlist for sure!

she has a really cute shop. check her out!

The temperature on Saturday started out warm and had risen to a fabulous 72 degrees by lunch. There was no more denying that spring is on it’s way, and the time to get started on this year’s garden was here! I spent the morning attempting to clear/till a strip behind the garage where my grapes and blackberries are going to go.

the beginning

Sunday I went to the garden center for some extra garden soil and a better rake/hoe so I could finish the project. While I was there, I couldn’t resist a pot of peppers and two pots of tomatoes.

My mother was cleaning out her spare room and brought me some boxes I’d forgotten were at her house. In one of the boxes was this tea set, which I don’t ever remember buying, and swear it must be hers. However, it is very cute, so perhaps i should keep my mouth shut…

Today it’s supposed to be 74! If all goes according to plan, I’ll finish the berry patch today, and pot up the veggies. Right now, I need another cup of coffee…

So I was thrifting the other day with my mother, and what did we run across but this little family of owls, who begged to come home with me…

Of course now that they’re here, I don’t quite know what to do with them. I think they’re plotting a takeover of the kitchen.

Here are two non-work-related projects in progress.

collage in progress

This is the start of a collage piece. I found my boxes of old prints the other day and felt sad that they were just sitting there, unloved. I have a horrible habit of never making (or keeping) art for myself, and that’s something I really need to change. I’m not sure where this piece is going, but I’m sure it will tell me when it’s ready. The pages are from a ratty stack of antique books I rescued from a dumpster, and the base is leftover wood from when my husband replaced the floor joists underneath our bathroom. Someday when there are actual “after” photos, I’ll make a post about the nightmare bathroom project.

This next item is something else I snagged from a trash pile. It’s hard to get a good photo where it’s hanging, but it’s got a great rusty finish. I was undecided between attempting to re-wire it and sealing the rust, or simply turning it into a candleabra.
project candleabra!

I think candles might be winning.
