Let them eat cake

My head just aches these days. There are things going on I don’t want to get into here, but when I look for a distraction in this computer screen, only to find complete insanity on every side? Well, it isn’t helping.

For instance, this mess about Topeka removing the ban on domestic violence because they supposedly can’t afford to prosecute offenders. I mean, ok, that right there is outrageous enough, and the lawmakers involved should be really ashamed of themselves for this stunt, but the bigger question is why is there a separate law for when you hit your wife instead of a stranger? Why do we need a whole other law and set of rules for prosecuting what would be assault if it happened on the street? why?

I’ve been reading through the pictures posted on both the 99% and the 53% sites and it’s heartbreaking. More so to hear the people making fun of those who are in such dire straights. Yes, there are people out there who are whining and need to get a life, but there are a lot of people who aren’t. The majority of people aren’t. Just because they wrote their problems on a sheet of paper and are holding up their thoughts on the world we live in doesn’t mean they are sitting on their asses with their hands out, not trying to make their world better. You can acknowledge what is wrong with this system, and how it has hurt you while still trying to do something about it.
What’s more troubling is the people who hold up the papers talking about how they work three jobs, have no healthcare and no savings, but they are just fine and the others are just lazy and need to suck it up and get over it. Get a job.
It reminds me of the Puritans. We must suffer all the time for everything because that is the way of God and we are all sinners who never deserve a break until we die.

For the record, I think the system is so ridiculously broken that the answer lies in going outside of it. That said, I don’t really know what to do about all the people who’ve been thrown out of their homes and need medical care they can’t afford. The let them eat cake mentality put forth by those who don’t understand how their privilege has protected them is troubling, to say the least.

but here, have a picture of a kitten:
